Sexual Harassment and Domestic Violence.
Yesterday, I went to a CLIP College Hour in S112. I listened to three presentations : Diversity, Sexual Harassment and domestic Violence. The most interested for me was domestic Violence. This means a pattern’s behavior in any relationship that used to gain or maintain power or control over an intimate partner. We also learned about other common types of abuse for example physical, sexual, emotional and psychological. The most common abuse in New York City is domestic and physical but many times their victims don’t want get help because they are undocumented but this is not a requirement to report your problem.. New York is a city with many recourses for help to victims from domestic violence. For example if you are a victim you can called to 311 this is advice from NYC government where there are special people with knowledge about your abuse. Other advice is from police where you can file a complaint about your type of abuse or call to direct line 911. So now you know how get help. Don’t be scared about your origin, immigration status or religion. Remember your city have many programs and advice for help you with your abuse.
Single Stops, Career Path and ASAP Programs.
Last week Clip students went to college hour. We learned about three different topics. These topics are Single Stop, Career Path, and ASAP. These programs provide a lot of benefits for community college students. Some students can apply to qualify to get help from the government and some benefits are free transportation, free books, free tutoring, free legal assistant, and free classes.
If your goal is to continue college, you can get help using Single Stop. Single Stop is a program with free services for community colleges students. Its services are quick benefits screening, financial counseling, legal assistance and tax preparation. Single Stop can help you to beat obstacles in your life. The Single Stop office is located in the Library Building, room 432-A. For more information contact Tony Luna at 718-631-6347, or go to [email protected]. It is a good program for students who have this kind of situation.
Career Path is a program to help students finding jobs more easily. This program benefits documented and undocumented students. Fortunately this program is free and includes books. Career Path offers programs in manufacturing, green jobs, culinary and medical. People who are interested can go to the office of Science Building, or call 718-281-5157, and also find information at Cunycareerpath.edu. The government is trying to help us by providing a lot of opportunities, and we think that it is important to get help in different ways.
If you want to study and finish your major as soon as possible and you qualify, you must apply to ASAP. This program offers assistance with career counseling and job placement. However, ASAP doesn’t provide financial aid. In fact this program also gives free Metrocards, and tuition waiver. ASAP is not for everyone. Students must have documents to qualify. Furthermore, not all majors are eligible. Some examples are nursing and early childhood education. To apply for this program it is necessary to attend an ASAP Information Session or visit the website at www.qcc.cuny.edu/asap or contact 718 631- 6680. This program helps many people that are not financially stable.
Community college provides a lot of benefits in which students grow successfully in academic advisement. Single Stop, Career Path, and ASAP help in different ways. We must have the necessary requirements to qualify in any of these programs. Something very important that we learned in the College Hour is how we can get help to move forward in our life. In our opinion, we have to look for help if it is necessary.

Class Visit
Last week clips student's visited classes from College. I visited speech 211. The teacher was Mr. Cesarano. The duration of this class was 12:1o to 2:00pm. The class was located in room number H114. The topic of this class was "to inform my audience about the first anxiety attack I ever had". This topi9c made the class interesting. The teacher used many articles from the internet to explain the topic. Many students did presentations about their anxiety attacks. The teacher did these presentations to help his students with their speech. I like this class and can recommend it to students who start college. The most important requirements get an A is to come everyday. Other requirements are to complete all assignment, raise the hand and use very good vocabulary for your presentation. If you want to speak very well, this class is your first step.
